Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Being Profile?
The Being Profile® is an in-depth personal assessment tool developed by Engenesis that examines 31 distinct Ways of Being — such as vulnerability, authenticity, responsibility and care. It reveals your strengths, your patterns of behaviour, and the specific aspects of how you are being in the world that may be getting in the way of your effectiveness and fulfilment. It forms the foundation of the Being Framework™, an ontological model used for personal and leadership development.
Q: What is a Being Profile debrief session?
A debrief session is a one-on-one conversation with an accredited Being Profile practitioner — in this case, Glenn Johnstone — held after you've completed your online Being Profile assessment. In the session, Glenn walks you through your results in a structured, judgement-free environment, helping you understand what the profile is showing, what it means for your life and work, and where the most meaningful opportunities for growth lie.
Q: How is the Being Profile different from MBTI, DISC or StrengthsFinder?
Unlike personality typing tools, the Being Profile doesn't assign you to a fixed category or type. Instead, it measures the degree to which 31 distinct ways of being are present or absent in how you currently show up — and treats these as developable rather than fixed. It draws on an ontological framework, meaning it examines the relationship between your way of being and your actions and results, rather than simply classifying personality traits.
Q: Who is the Being Profile for?
The Being Profile is for anyone interested in understanding themselves more deeply — particularly people who feel they're not reaching their full potential, those navigating a career transition, or leaders who want to develop more authentic and effective ways of leading. Glenn Johnstone works particularly with technical professionals — including those in geospatial, engineering and spatial sciences — who are moving into or growing within leadership roles.
Q: Do I need to complete the online assessment before booking a debrief?
Yes. The Being Profile assessment is completed online through the Engenesis platform (beingprofile.com) before your debrief session with Glenn. Once you've completed it, Glenn will have access to your results and will use these as the basis for your debrief conversation.
Q: How long does a Being Profile debrief session take?
A typical debrief session runs for approximately 90 minutes. This allows enough time to meaningfully explore your results, discuss patterns and themes, and identify where focused development would make the greatest difference.
Q: What is ontological coaching?
Ontological coaching is an approach to coaching grounded in the study of being — how a person's way of being (their moods, language and body) shapes their actions, relationships and results. Rather than focusing purely on skills or strategies, ontological coaching examines the underlying dispositions and patterns that determine how someone shows up in any given situation. It is the philosophical foundation of the Being Framework™ and the Being Profile®.
Q: Where is Glenn Johnstone based, and does he work with clients outside Canberra?
Glenn is based in Canberra, ACT, Australia. He works with clients across Australia — debrief sessions and coaching can be conducted in person (Canberra) or online via video call, so location is not a barrier to working together.
Q: How do I get started?
The first step is to get in touch. Reach Glenn at hello@mappingbeing.com.au or call +61 (0)424 794 970 to discuss whether the Being Profile and a debrief session is the right fit for you.
